SEASON 1

PILOT (Episode 1)

Rachel, an old friend of Monica's, shows up at Central Perk in a wedding dress, after leaving her fiancee at
the altar. She's seen her life in a new light, and surrounded by new, free-spirited friends, realizes it's time to
begin again. Rachel begins by moving in with Monica, and working at Central Perk. Monica's new love
interest, Paul, reveals he's impotent, which Monica finds intriguing and attractive. She eventually learns that
his story is a ruse to lure women into bed. Ross' wife leaves him for another woman, which forces him to face
the reality of beginning again.

THE ONE WITH THE SONOGRAM AT THE END (Episode 2)

Ross' ex-wife Carol shows up at Ross' museum to inform him that she's pregnant, and he's the father. Then,
she invites him to join her and, Susan, her new girlfriend, in raising the child. When Ross and Monica's
parents come over for dinner, Monica hopes Ross will speak up, and take some pressure off her. Instead,
Ross says nothing, and mom and dad blame Monica for being secretive. Finally, Ross, Carol, and Susan feel
united at Carol's sonogram appointment. Rachel goes to return her ring to Barry, only to find that he took their
maid-of-honor on their honeymoon trip, and the two are extremely happy.

THE ONE WITH THE THUMB (Episode 3)

Although Monica really likes Alan, her new interest, she's nervous about introducing him to her friends. To
her surprise, they all love him, and often invite him to join their activities without Monica's consent. Once
Monica realizes she's not in love with Alan, she breaks up with him, and the group reacts as if they've lost one
of their members. Chandler begins smoking again, and Alan is the only one able to convince him to stop
Phoebe's bank mistakenly credits her $1000, which she gives to a homeless woman, who gives Phoebe a
soda as a thank you. The soda has a thumb in it, and the company gives Phoebe $7000 in gag money,
which she offers Chandler to stop smoking.

THE ONE WITH GEORGE STEPHANOPLOUS (Episode 4)

Rachel gets her new paycheck, only to find it's remarkably small, and she can barely cover her share of a
ritzy lunch with old friends. When she returns to find Phoebe and Monica in the middle of an impromptu
slumber party, she realizes she wouldn't trade her friends for the world. For his birthday, Chandler and Joey
take Ross to a hockey game. Ross hates hockey, and the night ends in disaster, as Ross gets hit in the face
with the puck, and winds up in the ER.

THE ONE WITH THE EAST GERMAN LAUNDRY DETERGENT (Episode 5)

Phoebe and Chandler decide to end their relationships at the coffee house, on the same night. While
Chandler takes forever, and confuses himself the longer he goes, Phoebe finishes in about four seconds, and
comes to Chandler's rescue. Meanwhile, Joey's trying to win back his old girlfriend, Angela, who's dating Mr.
Sensitive. Joey tries to make Angela jealous by taking Monica on a double-date with Angela and her
boyfriend. However, Monica thinks her date is Mr. Sensitive, and Joey has to bribe her to stay when she
figures out his scheme. Although there's still a spark between Angela and Joey, Angela says she likes Monica
too much to get between them.



THE ONE WITH THE BUTT (Episode 6)

After a humiliating experience in a play, Joey's thinking about quitting acting, when he lands a role as Al
Pacino's butt-double. Trying to play on its breakthrough possibilities, Joey gets fired for overacting. Chandler
asks out a beautiful woman who, amazingly, says yes. It turns out she's married, to her third husband, and
Chandler must examine whether this is the ideal situation (a great physical relationship, no commitment,
etc....), or merely a facade. Eventually, Chandler realizes his situation is not good, and leaves the
relationship. The group tries to get Monica overcome her obsession with neatness and organization, but she
must acknowledge her compulsive behavior.

THE ONE WITH THE BLACKOUT (Episode 7)

Joey convinces Ross that it's finally time to ask Rachel on a date. Before he can muster the guts, Rachel meets
Paolo, a modelesque Italian neighbor, and brings him back to the apartment. Ross is devastated, and secretly
pulls Paolo aside to tell him Rachel is taken. However, when the power flickers back on for a moment, the
group sees Rachel kissing Paolo in the corner. Chandler spends his time trapped in a vestibule with model Jill
Goodacre, whom he desperately tries to impress.

THE ONE WHERE NANA DIES TWICE (Episode 8)

Ross and Monica's maternal grandmother is dying, and Rachel's mother, Judy, still find time to pick on
Monica. Grandmother's passing spurs a discussion about the group's feelings about death. As it turns out,
grandma was hard on Judy, as Judy ids on Monica, and their conversation at the funeral reception leads to a
new understanding of each other. Shelly, one of Chandler's co-workers, thinks he's gay, and wants to set him
up with Lowell, another co-worker. Chandler is shocked, especially when he learns the girls thought he was
gay at first, too. Lowell tells Chandler he's knows Chandler is straight, and Chandler is miffed when both men
and women find him unattractive.

THE ONE WHERE UNDERDOG GETS AWAY - THANKSGIVING SHOW (Episode 9)

Since Ross and Monica's parents go to Bermuda of the holiday, Monica decides to cook for Ross and herself.
Rachel decides to join them when her father refuses to pay for her airfare to Colorado, since she's
independent. Since Joey's face is featured in a VD ad, he doesn't want to spend the holiday explaining to his
family that he doesn't have a VD. Chandler hates Thanksgiving, because his parents announced their
divorce on that day, which caused him to throw up his turkey. Phoebe comes, and brings her grandmother.
However, they get locked out, and the food burns. The gang eats cheese sandwiches and soup, and vow to
make it a tradition.

THE ONE WITH THE MONKEY - HOLIDAY SHOW (Episode 10)

Ross gets a monkey, Marcel, and treats it like a partner in a relationship. Although the gang makes a 'no date'
pact for New Year's, everyone scrambles for someone to kiss at midnight, and Ross brings Marcel. Phoebe
falls for David, a scientist who's juste received a three-year grant to study abroad. However, David realizes
he wants the grant after all, and he and Phoebe go their own way, along with the rest of the group's dates,
which unites them for the holiday.

THE ONE WITH MRS. BING (Episode 11)

Chandler's mother, a romance novelist, takes everyone out for dinner. Rachel beings Paolo, to which a
despondent Ross ensures by drinking a few too many shots. Mom becomes the life of the party, and
eventually kisses Ross, which Joey happens to see. Eventually Ross tells Chandler, which leads to a
confrontation between Chandler and his mother, and they grow closer as a result. Monica and Phoebe flirt
with a man, and while he flirts back he's hit by a cab. They care for him i the hospital, competing for his
attention, although he's unconscious the entire time.

THE ONE WITH THE DOZEN LASAGNAS (Episode 12)

Ross' ex-wife, Carol, learns the sex of their child, but insists she wants it to be a surprise. Rachel eventually
spills the beans, and Ross is thrilled he'll soon have a son. Meanwhile, Paolo gives Phoebe a massage, and
makes a pass at her. After much debate among the group, Phoebe eventually tells Rachel, who breaks things
off with Paolo. Ross is ecstatic, until Rachel swears off men forever. Joey and Chandler's kitchen table breaks,
and they end up bickering like a married couple over what to buy. Eventually they settle on a practical piece,
a foosball table.

THE ONE WITH THE BOOBIES (Episode 13)

Phoebe begins dating a shrink, but he drives the rest of the group nuts when he begins analyzing their
neuroses. Chandler accidentally sees Rachel's breasts, and a game of one-upmanship ensues between the
two. Joey learns his father has a mistress. He convinces dad to dump the lady, and come clean to mom, but
something surprising happens.

THE ONE WITH THE CANDY HEARTS (Episode 14)

Chandler agrees to double with Joey and is mortified when Joey's date is Janice, an annoying woman that
Joey's already broken up with twice. When Joey goes to break up with her for the third time, it's Valentine's
Day. Ross and his date run into Carol and Susan at a restaurant, and Susan is beeped away on business.
Carol joins Ross and his date, who is annoyed by their reminiscing, and leaves Carol and Ross to spend
Valentine's together again. The girls decide to spend the day burning remnants of old relationships, but start a
fire in Monica's apartment. They think they're doubly saved when three cute fireman show up, but they're not
as nice as they seem.

THE ONE WITH THE STONED GUY (Episode 15)

Chandler is offered a promotion, but turns it down, not wanting to become a corporate puppet. However, the
boss temps him with money and a title, and Chandler takes the job. He finds himself picking on those below
him, and fearing he's become a puppet anyway. Monica's the top candidate for a position at a new restaurant,
but must prepare a gourmet meal. When the owner arrives, he's stoned and hungry. He eats the meal, and
moves on the Ritz crackers, and macaroni and cheese. Ross gets a date with a woman from the museum,
and Joey teaches him how to talk dirty.

THE ONE WITH TWO PARTS, PART I (Episode 16)

Joey and Chandler meets Phoebe's estranged sister, Ursula, and Joey finds himself to her. Weary of Urusla's
habit of 'breaking things,' Phoebe gives Joey permission to date her, and regrets it when the two begin to get
close. Ross takes a Lamaze class with Carol and Susan, and begins to worry he won't make a good father.
Chandler must fire a co-worker, a woman to whom he's desperately attracted. Rachel takes a fall while
removing Christmas lights from the balcony.

THE ONE WITH TWO PARTS, PART II (Episode 17)

It's the twins birthday, and Joey blows off Phoebe's party to be with Ursula, who's begun to lose interest in
Joey. Soon, she's not returning his calls, and Phoebe confronts Ursula, trying to get her to patch things up.
She refuses, and Phoebe pretends to be Ursula, convincing Joey that he's ending the relationship. Joey
leaves, but not without a kiss. Monica takes Rachel to the ER, where two doctors ask them out. However,
Monica panics, because she's just let Rachel pose as her on medical insurance. They go on the date,
pretending to be each other. Ross' monkey, Marcel, swallows a 'k' during Scrabble, and Ross rushes him to
the hospital, saving his life. He begins to think he might be a good father after all.

THE ONE WITH ALL THE POKER (Episode 18)

Rachel interviews for an assistant buyer's position at Sak's Fifth Avenue. An intense poker game ensues
between the guys and girls, and the guys win. Monica's aunt, Iris, gives the girls a crash course in poker, and
they demand a rematch. During the game, Rachel finds out she didn't get the job, which fuels her drive to win.
Everyone folds, except for Ross and Rachel. When Ross sees how badly Rachel wants to win, he folds and
gives her the victory.

THE ONE WHERE THE MONKEY GETS AWAY (Episode 19)

Rachel learns her ex-fiancee, Barry, is engaged, and wonders if she'll ever find 'the one.' Accordingly, Ross
decides it's time to make his move. However, Rachel loses Ross' monkey, Marcel, and the whole gang sets
out to find him. Marcel turns up, after being kidnapped by their crazy neighbor, Mr. Heckes. Just as Ross is
about to talk to Rachel, Barry shows up, claiming the engagement's off, as he's still in love with Rachel.

THE ONE WITH THE EVIL ORTHODONTIST (Episode 20)

Rachel shares some special moments with Barry, and thinks he might be 'Mr. Right' after all. Mindy, Rachel's
ex-best friend, asks Rachel to be her Maid-of-Honor, and expresses her fear that Barry may cheat. She then
admits that she was intimate with Barry, while he was engaged to Rachel. They confront Barry, and Mindy
accepts his apology, but Rachel leaves him for good. After a first date with a charming woman, Chandler has
a major case of head games, while the gang learns they have a peeping Tom.

THE ONE WITH THE FAKE MONICA (Episode 21)

Someone has stolen Monica's credit card, and is charging items (such as tap dancing lessons) Rachel has
always wanted, items that are part of a more care-free life. Monica becomes spontaneous, and Rachel is
forced to become responsible. Eventually, they arrest the fake Monica, and the real Monica visit her in jail,
getting a taste of life on the 'wild side.' Marcel, Ross' monkey, begins to get old, and finding him a good zoo
becomes as difficult as getting into an Ivy-league school.

THE ONE WITH THE 'ICK' FACTOR (Episode 22)

Monica starts dating a 21-year old, who thinks he's Monica's age. When she comes clean, he tells her that
he's a high school senior. Unable to get over the 'ick' file, Monica bids him farewell, Summer of '42 style.
Phoebe takes a temp job working for Chandler, and is surprised to learn his co-workers can't stand him. Ross
is upset when Rachel has a series of erotic dreams about Chandler, but later hears Rachel speak his name,
while sleeping on the couch. Rachel wakes up to Ross standing over her, and something seems like it might
finally happen, when Ross' beeper goes off. Carol has gone into labor.

THE ONE WITH THE BIRTH (Episode 23)

Carol goes into labor, and Ross and Susan, Rachel's life parent, argue about who should coach Carol
through the process. Carol kicks them out of the delivery room, and they continue to argue in the hall. Phoebe
takes them in a supply closet, to talk some sense into them, and the three get locked in. They decide to name
the baby after the janitor that lets them out. Sickened by the birthing process, Joey leaves and meets a single
mother, and ends up coaching her through child birth. Monica wonders if she'll ever have a child of their own.

THE ONE WHERE RACHEL FINDS OUT - FINALE (Episode 24)
Ross gets called away on business days before Rachel's birthday, but buys her an antique broach she's
coveted for a while. During a romantic movie, Chandler slips about Ross' feelings, and Rachel is surprised
and touched. A discussion ensues about getting involved with a friend, and Rachel eventually decides to risk
friendship for love. She goes to wait for the Ross at the airport, and he arrives with a beautiful new girlfriend.
Joey picks up some extra cash by joining a fertility study, where he must obstain from sex. for the first time, he
'gives but doesn't take' from a woman, which leads him to startling revelations about woman and sex.
